I shoot all my photographs with a drone.
I have always been fascinated by objects in flight—planes crossing the sky, birds hovering overhead, and kites dancing in the wind. I currently own twelve kites, which I fly whenever I can, so it was only natural that I became captivated by drones.
My journey into drone photography began in 2016, when my son gave me a small, inexpensive drone for Christmas. What began as a new way to see the world quickly became a creative passion.
Through aerial photography, I explore familiar places from an unfamiliar perspective. My work focuses primarily on Birmingham’s architectural heritage, monuments, and iconic sites, revealing details that are often invisible from the ground. Elevating the camera allows me to transform the way these places are experienced.
Light is an essential part of my process. I particularly enjoy photographing just after sunset, when the warmth and angle of the sunlight can transform even familiar structures. I am drawn to those fleeting moments when architecture, landscape, light, and atmosphere come together to create an image that can only have been seen from the sky.
